WELCOME
As you know, Black women live at a point of intersectionality (gender/race) in this country that demands resilience, courage, and education. Here, we bring awareness to specific consumer protection laws that impact our day-to-day lives in profound ways.
These laws; e.g. the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, provide protection from bad actors who improperly collect debts, report inaccurate information on our credit reports and use robots to call/text our cell phones. We exist to support our tribe of African-American women in building a secure financial house.
We have been conceptualizing forming this group of BFFs for several years; our efforts were catalyzed by the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic and the recent laser focus on injustices long suffered by our brothers and sisters, including outright murder! It is time for a change and we at BWBC are stepping into the breach to provide help in the consumer protection laws space – shoring up our community’s knowledge and courage to ACT!
Why do we care?
Well, it’s annoying and frustrating, but it’s also unlawful. When these laws are violated, we get paid. Our founders built this process after facing financial hardship and experiencing identity theft, dealing with errors on our credit reports and receiving hundreds of robo-calls. We have disputed debts, sent demand letters to unscrupulous players in the debt collection game – – both BIG and small, the credit bureaus, and robots blowing up our cell phones.
